Who or what is a Jason Mraz?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 7, 2012 6:22 PM |
I love him and his music, but he fell off the rails a few years ago.
When he was relatively new on the scene, he and his music were both cool, he seemed very unaffected and natural. All about the music.
But then his song I'm Yours became such a huge hit among tween girls worldwide and he lost some of his cool factor.
And apparently in an effort to compensate and get back his cred, he adopted that long-haired dirty anorexic look, and I've been hardly able to look at him for the last year or so.
He's always been gay-friendly, but a couple of years ago seemed to go on a mission to be the poster boy for (straight?) musicians who love the gays.
Also, in the past year he's become nearly inseparable from his bandmember Mona Tavakoli, giving the impression they are a couple. But they don't act like a couple, they act like bffs.
I love him with Toca Rivera, btw. They make beautiful music together, and no one on earth is cooler than Toca.
Also, if you couldn't tell, I want Jason on his back with his legs thrown over my shoulders while I fuck the shit out of him. But I want to give him a bath and a shave and cut his hair off first.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 7, 2012 6:25 PM |
R4 is completely right. No more needs to be said.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 7, 2012 6:33 PM |
I agree with R4. Jason was cute a few years ago when he had shorter hair and looked like he bathed and shaved regularly. But ever since he adopted the long-haired, grungy, hippie look, his hotness quotient has plummeted. (John Mayer has adopted the same tactic.)
Jason has always been not only gay-friendly but very outspoken about it, which makes me think he may not be quite as straight as he claims to be.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 7, 2012 6:41 PM |
So even after reading the thread up to now, I still have no idea who he is.
So I go google his pic (below), and that doesn't help me at all either.
So I head to wikipedia, and ... still have never heard of this guy or anything he's done.
...why are we talking about this nobody again?
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 7 | July 7, 2012 6:48 PM |
Because some of us like his music, R7. If you don't know it or like it, that's fine, you don't have to.
But if it's just your goal here to prove your superiority by suggesting you don't know who a popular musician is, it's not working for you. It only makes you sound arrogant and ignorant.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 7, 2012 7:02 PM |
Could you repeat that r8? None of us could hear you over the sound of your tiny little feet stamping in fury...
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 7, 2012 7:07 PM |
He cant' be THAT popular if I've never, ever heard of him. I listen to the radio a lot, and listen to a lot of current music.
Sorry. This guy is a nobody.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 7, 2012 7:07 PM |
Verificatia of size meat?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 7, 2012 7:09 PM |
Mraz is just a guy in a hat
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 7, 2012 7:10 PM |
Jason Mraz is not a nobody. He's been on the music scene for a decade. He had a big hit with "The Remedy" and a huge hit with "I'm Yours." His albums have been in the Top 10, and he tours extensively. I can't believe that anyone who pays any attention at all to the music scene would have no idea who he is.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 7, 2012 7:17 PM |
My guess is that most of the posters on here who haven't heard of him were born before the 1980's.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 7, 2012 7:24 PM |
Who's this Jason Mraz? He's Charlie Nobody, that's who!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 7, 2012 7:28 PM |
I hate his hipster douche schtick, including that ridiculous hat that he wears all of the time. A former friend and mod on a gymnastics board I used to belong to salivated over him until I could no longer take it. Even his signature line on his posts was "I want Jason Mraz to be my husband". Had to cancel my account. So when I think of Mraz, I think of this obsessive moron who loved all things Mraz.
I HATE Jason Mraz.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 7, 2012 7:34 PM |
Went on line, and yeah, I've heard "I'm Yours". But don't recognize any of the other songs, and certainly don't recognize the name. I haven't a clue how you'd even pronounce that last name, to be honest.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 7, 2012 7:39 PM |
I 've seen his name for a few years but did not know his work.
SO -- I just spent some time on YouTube familiarizing myself with Mr. Mraz's music.
Pretty lame … z'all I can say.
Not my cup o' tea, fer sher.

And man, is he douchy in that hat and smirk.
Bleh.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 7, 2012 9:15 PM |
Oh, and he's a vegan too? Vegan hipster douche!!! Die Jason, DIE!!!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 7, 2012 9:16 PM |
I can't stand him, but all you "I've never heard of him, so he's not important" people are extremely tiresome.
Even if you think you haven't heard of him, you've heard this fucking song.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 24 | July 7, 2012 9:20 PM |
R24 until you posted that link I can honestly say I had never in my life heard that fucking song.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 7, 2012 9:25 PM |
Do you people live under rocks? How can you not have heard of him? He's been around for years now. Seriously, people, all of you who don't know who he is sound like you must be a joy at any social gathering!!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 7, 2012 9:35 PM |
That's fine, R25, but clearly you are out of touch.
The song was a top 10 hit around the world and broke a record at the time for most weeks spent in the Top 100.
I never really understand when people around here want to loudly proclaim just how little they know.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 27 | July 7, 2012 9:40 PM |
It's doesn't have a catchy beat, R24. You can't dance to it!
(gum SNAP)
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 7, 2012 9:44 PM |
Oh, I've heard that insufferable song... endlessly.
Doesn't change the fact that I had never heard his name before or seen it written, and had no connection between the name and the song. And I'd never seen his face before today, in this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 7, 2012 9:45 PM |
I don't listen to top 10 radio...songs like that remind me why.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 7, 2012 10:01 PM |
Wow somebody here has not heard of Jason mraz.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 7, 2012 10:01 PM |
Does anyone else think this thread was started by Jason and he got upset that most of us had never heard of him, and those that have are not impressed?
I think he might have been testing the waters and the test came back positive...he is positive that no one cares what the fuck he does.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 7, 2012 10:02 PM |
Just because people don't know who he is, doesn't make it a sin. Not everyone follows music that close. Sometimes when we love an entertainer so much to the point of borderline obsession, we expect others to feel the same way about that entertainer. But to stamp your feet and scream, "You people are sooooooooo out of touch for not salivating over....." it may mean the person in question needs to take a chill pill.
That said, I can't stand him - still.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 7, 2012 10:09 PM |
I've heard of him. He's like a poor man's John Mayer. He's making music for future elevator travelers all over
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 7, 2012 10:14 PM |
[quote]Does anyone else think this thread was started by Jason and he got upset that most of us had never heard of him, and those that have are not impressed?
No, absolutely no rational person would think that.
[quote]But to stamp your feet and scream, "You people are sooooooooo out of touch for not salivating over....." it may mean the person in question needs to take a chill pill.
No one is stamping their feet or screaming. Just pointing out a very obvious fact that if you haven't heard "I'm Yours," you are out of touch.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 7, 2012 10:15 PM |
r36, I've heard it, I've heard his music. I just happen to think he sucks...
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 7, 2012 10:19 PM |
Well, as long as we're piling on Jason, I say we take him into the street and horsewhip him!
Who's with me?!
We'll lash the douche-inness right out of him!
Then some DLer can sling a pan of hot grease on him!
That'll teach him for not being a DL favorite who everyone here knows and loves.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 7, 2012 10:21 PM |
Some of you are acting like this thread is overrun by drooling Mraz fanboys. Please, go back and re-read R8:
[quote]But if it's just your goal here to prove your superiority by suggesting you don't know who a popular musician is, it's not working for you. It only makes you sound arrogant and ignorant.
I can't stand Mraz's music, but I agree 100 percent with what R8 said.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 7, 2012 10:28 PM |
Too bad what r8 said isn't based on anything actually posted in this thread.
Nobody is trying to prove they're "superior" by having never heard of him. They're just saying they've never heard of him. I've heard the song endlessly. I've never heard the name (or probably more accurately, if I did, it never registered).
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 7, 2012 11:46 PM |
For R40: [quote]He cant' be THAT popular if I've never, ever heard of him. I listen to the radio a lot, and listen to a lot of current music.
[quote]Sorry. This guy is a nobody.
I don't get it around here sometimes. I don't follow baseball. So if there's a thread on some baseball player, I don't go in and post: "Never heard of him!" Because, really, in this case, my opinion has zero value.
DLers who stopped paying attention to popular culture in 1975, yet feel the need to post their uninformed, useless opinions about modern pop culture are the absolute worst.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 8, 2012 12:07 AM |
R41, except I haven't stopped paying attention to popular culture at all.
Why exactly are you defending this douche-bag of questionable talent who's had exactly one hit song, and whose name is a mystery to 99% of the population?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 8, 2012 12:15 AM |
[quote] who's had exactly one hit song, and whose name is a mystery to 99% of the population?
Jason Mraz isn't nearly as obscure and unknown as you're making him out to be.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 8, 2012 12:31 AM |
[quote]Why exactly are you defending this douche-bag of questionable talent who's had exactly one hit song, and whose name is a mystery to 99% of the population?
I agree, he is a douchebag. I can't stand his music. But you are just out of touch and can't admit it.
He's not a one-hit wonder, as "The Remedy" was a big hit, too. Until "I'm Yours" came along, it looked like he actually was a one-hit wonder, but "I'm Yours" turned his career around. He's headlining outdoor amphitheaters this summer, including two nights at Red Rocks and one at the Hollywood Bowl.
Clearly, more than 1 percent of the population knows who he is.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 8, 2012 12:38 AM |
Loved his first album but hate "I'm Yours."
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 8, 2012 12:41 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 8, 2012 12:49 AM |
I always though he did that Banana Pancakes song I don't like...but it's not him, it's Jack Johnson. Sorry, Jason. I like you better now.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 8, 2012 4:11 AM |
He once said in an interview that he may be bi, or that if the right guy came along he might give it a go, or something along those lines. I've dug his music since "The Remedy" came out years ago. He seems really nice, and un-douchbaggy (the opposite of John Mayer).

I've been posting on Datalounge for about a year. From time to time, I will come across a post mentioning someone or something that I am (for whatever reason) unaware of. I quickly google and or research on the Internet to determine if I have something to add. If I still do not know the person, topic or have nothing noteworthy to add... I simply go on to the next topic post.
Why anyone would take the time to post "who" or " ask for a link or pic link is fucking pure laziness and speaks volumes for our young, spoiled, "me" society. It scares me more and more that it will be this generation of individuals responsible for moving this society forward.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 8, 2012 3:43 PM |
My question is; why spend so much time on a thread when/if you've never heard of the person of discussion? And *then* act mad. That's silly.

I actually like this guy a lot as a person; his music is not much to my taste, though. By the way, I love the arrogance of some posters here who assume that a person is not legitimately well-known if they have not paid attention to him or her. As posters like r44 have said Jason Mraz is certainly not a "one-hit wonder" or "nobody".

R72, love that. Mraz did his own voice, too!
He's actually a nice guy. Very low-key, very kind to a servers Gracias Madre on Melrose. I've seen him there and at Real Food Daily on La Cienega. He's very sweet. More than half the time I've seen him he's been sitting eating alone and reads on an iPad. He doesn't wear the hat.

Love Jason. So happy for him that he got to fulfill his big Broadway dream this year by doing WAITRESS.
I'd actually love for him to write a musical. Maybe Sara Bareilles has turned him on to the idea...
MR. A-Z is an awesome album, as his WE SING WE DANCE WE STEAL THINGS. His debut, too.
His last two albums have been a little too same-y and lack the experimental stuff of the first few, but they have their pleasures.
Also, EXCELLENT live performer. Incredible range and impressive guitar skills. John Mayer wishes!
